TUNEL CREW | Shortboard

DESCRIPTION

The Tunel Crew design was inspired by the heavy and tubular waves of Itacoatiara and a group of surfers from this point, who always linked to performance inside the barrels, the tunel crew.

For that, it was essential to build a board that would give speed and control, from paddling to the barrel exit.

Itacoatiara is an internationally known beach which provides barrels and heavy waves. Great tube riders came from there; like Bruno Santos and Guilherme Herdy. Therefore, the model of boards developed by Ricardo Martins in partnership with Tunel Crew seeks the combination of speed, stability and control, things that the board needs in these conditions.

The first step here was to create an outline with more area and floatation concentrated in the chest area and narrower from mid to back. That meant a considerable gain in paddling on a high-performance board built to respond quickly and generate control and speed, essential in the drop and to fit in the wall of the tubes.

Then it was necessary to balance the rocker and bottom. We started with a high rocker, essential for hollow waves. So, if the rocker gave control, a sharp single concave bottom in the central region, changing to a double between the fins, provided speed and drive, putting the balance on the board construction. In barrels sometimes we need to speed up and others to slow down. Control and speed need to be available.

Another important detail in this model is the construction of lower rails compared to our other designs. Low rails are essential to better to cut the waves and bring more security, as a kind of pivot. In these conditions, it's not just the fins that hold the wave wall, the rail also sticks and projects.

To end it, we added two channels on the back fin to create high-speed steering and control. The round and round pin tails are the most used in this board.

We advise to always use a 1/4 narrower and 1/8 thicker than your regular surfboard.

An interesting board to have in your quiver, highly recommended for surf trips. It works very well in strong and fast waves, conditions that require control. Tested and approved in Portugal, France, Mexico, etc. Highly requested in Indonesian lineups.
