Joca Secco

He is from Rio de Janeiro and was a professional surfing competitor between 1980 and 1990. He was Top 30 in the Brazilian Circuit and Top 16 in the Circuito Carioca. Sensing the growth of Brazilian surfing, he created his first surfboard factory in 1984 with Ricardo Martins and Luis Ferreira (the Owl) launching together the Hidrojets brand, which became known among the most famous Brazilian surfers. Obsessed with quality, design and performance by surfers, Joca Secco specializes in performance boards. "Surfboards do not have propulsion, so the way the surfer distributes his weight on top of it is what defines the type of surfboard he's going to use," says the shaper. This explains why two surfers, with the same weight and height, may prefer totally different boards. What makes an athlete look for a certain shape is an identification with the style of the shaper and the name of Joca Secco is synonymous with performance and performance.

With the same care and dedication, he develops special boards for competitions or for his clients. In addition to custom boards, made one by one, Joca maintains the same concern for quality and durability for orders from specialized stores. The goal is to make surfboards meet the needs of new surfers, whether they become professionals or not. "Currently, many surfers are preferring a ready-made board because, with the experience they already have, they know how to choose their size and weight with their hands, without the risk of being dissatisfied with a board ordered because sometimes the surfer imagines a Surfboard and ends up asking for another one for his shaper, so also nowadays he works from models that logically can and should be adapted to the need and taste of each surfer. Joca Secco is always on the lookout for new surfers who have talent because he thinks "helping a kid to become a champion is a very rewarding thing."

When someone stands out in competitions or even in leisure performances, try to encourage them with new equipment and prepare them for the championships. The Rio de Janeiro surfer Pedro Henrique, who has been sponsored since childhood by Joca, is now one of the world champions, in the junior professional category, that Wetworks has already "created".

Where does Joca Secco hunt talents? In championships, on the beach, watching. Today Brazil is the third world surfing power, losing only to Australia and Hawaii, in quantity of new surfers. Acting together with Ricardo Martins and Hennek, Joca Secco is proud when he says that "it is very difficult to exist a society like ours, where three shapers live well, without competitions and rivalries, producing high level equipment helping the national surfing." The reason for this is the love of surfing and professionalism
